Description
From 10 to 12 April 2026, Verneuil will be hosting a major exhibition in the Salomon de Brosse rooms devoted to the trades of yesteryear, a sensitive and documented plunge into more than three centuries of local history. Spanning the period from the beginning of the XVIIᵉ century, when the château was built and the Duke of Verneuil went hunting, to the middle of the XXᵉ century, this event will highlight the wealth of skills that shaped the daily lives of Vernoliens.
Visitors will be able to discover a large collection of illustrations depicting trades that have either disappeared or been radically transformed. Carefully selected old postcards will capture the atmosphere of the streets, workshops and shops of yesteryear.
The exhibition will also feature the names and backgrounds of the men and women who have brought life to the commune over the generations, reminding us of the vital role played by craftsmen, tradesmen and workers in local history. A selection of old tools, silent but eloquent witnesses to gestures now forgotten, will provide a better understanding of the material reality of these trades.
Through these objects, images and stories, the public can see how Verneuil and its inhabitants have changed over time, between traditions, economic transformations and social changes.
This exhibition is a tribute, a rediscovery and an invitation to take a fresh look at the past. Whether you're curious, a history buff or just a stroller, you'll find plenty to marvel at and learn from. Come one, come all to share this journey through time and rediscover the living memory of Verneuil.
