The first stage of the Tour de l'Oise gravel race, this route can also be enjoyed independently, as a micro-adventure accessible from Paris (25 min by TER). From Chantilly station, the route takes you deep into the forest along a path that runs alongside the Lions track, the training ground for France Galop's horses. The Château de Chantilly, voted France's Favourite Monument of 2025, then makes its appearance. The Nonette valley then leads to Senlis, a superb royal city where the cobbled streets, Notre-Dame cathedral and Remparts promenade are well worth a stop. The Halatte forest takes over for around ten kilometres of immersion between beeches, oaks and sandy clearings, with the butte d'Aumont and its fossil dune on the way. The route passes through Verneuil-en-Halatte, skirting the remains of the Gallo-Roman villa at Bufosse, then crosses the Oise via a footbridge before reaching Villers-Saint-Paul and Verderonne, gateway to the Clermont massif. The last few kilometres wind through pastures and woods to Breuil-le-Sec and historic Clermont, dominated by its medieval keep. A short descent brings you to Clermont-de-l'Oise station, the end of this first stage.
