From Compiègne station (40 minutes from Paris-Nord), this route offers a complete change of scenery, combining river and forest atmospheres. You pass through the rolling lanes of the Compiègne forest, while the Pimprez ponds announce the sublime ruins of Chiry-Ourscamp abbey, founded 900 years ago. The rest of the route takes in the Laigue forest, the Compiègne forest again, then Choisy-au-Bac and the banks of the Aisne and Oise rivers. Continue south-west to Pont-Sainte-Maxence station (40 minutes from Paris-Nord) on the perfect discontinuous EuroVélo 3 cycle path on the left bank of the Oise, and through the wetlands of Verberie and Pontpoint. Just before the final stop, don't miss the magnificent Moncel Abbey. For this route, you'll need a mountain bike or a gravel bike. If you want to shorten the route, you have the option of returning directly to Compiègne station after Choisy-au-Bac.
